Why should you choose Engineering

This qualification is for learners interested in taking a hands-on course alongside their GCSEs that will offer them an insight into what it is like to work in the Engineering/Manufacturing/Construction sector. With an increasing demand for high level engineering skills in existing and rapidly developing industries in the green sector, aerospace, agri-food, and bioscience, this course covers a range of engineering applications, giving learners a broad insight into the sector.

 

Career Options

This subject can lead to many different careers in Design, Product Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, Aeronautical, Biomedical, Environmental, Electrical, Mechanics…the list is extensive.

 

What else could you get out of Engineering?

This BTEC award can lead to a L3 qualification in Engineering, which the school already offers, or a career in design, engineering or manufacture in the local or wider area. Many local companies in the Midlands offer Engineering Apprenticeships where students could continue their learning.

18 hours non-exam assessment

Non-exam assessment (NEA) Weighting (60%) Externally-set, internally marked and externally moderated: synoptic project

1 hour 30 minutes examined assessment

Examined assessment (EA) Weighting (40%) Externally-set and externally marked: written exam

Attitudes to Learning

A positive attitude and willingness to work hard throughout the course. The course involves theory and practical tasks, so students MUST be committed to learning in both these areas. Home learning is key to success, students need to be self-motivated and have a genuine interest in how things work.
